RETHINK GLASS

Lower-carbon glass packaging through materials science and community action.

The Mission

I am a junior in high school who really loves science, especially chemistry, and I want to know how material science can help solve real-world problems. Glass is often seen as inherently sustainable. But its environmental footprint begins long before a bottle reaches our hands and continues long after we throw it away. My research focuses on LionGlass, an alternative requiring lower melting energy to slash CO2 emissions. I am examining its chemical properties while surveying local waste habits to bridge the gap between industrial production and public policy, determining if this science can truly thrive and create a greener future.

Research Pillars

01

Research

A literature-based look at low-carbon glass and its likely properties.

02

Community

How people in San Francisco use, reuse, and discard glass.

03

Industry

Learning how manufacturers and recyclers operate through case study.

04

Impact

Turning evidence into recommendations and community action.
